Power Up for a Look Back at Nintendo’s First Ad

In the days when home video games meant the Atari 2600, Intellivision (it was intelligent television), and ColecoVision, the first Nintendo Entertainment System was revolutionary. But before Mario or Zelda was launched un the the United States, the company introduced itself to the audience it would soon dominate with this ad.

It’s hard to remember, but when NES was first marketed and released it was actually R.O.B the Robot (meaning Robotic Operating Buddy) that was the selling point along with the gun which could be used to play simplistic games.

Of course, those accessories soon made way for Mario, Luigi, and the rest of the gang, but for a brief time this ad was a good look at what users could expect.
