80s Party Decorations Stories: Creating an Awesome 80s Atmosphere

We LOVE to receive great 80s party stories like this one. Thanks so much, Maria, for sharing your ideas and pictures. We are sure other visitors can get some great ideas when planning their own 80s party from what Maria did.

I need to thank you for your AWESOME website! You proved to be an invaluable resource for me when I threw my party in August 2008. First off, as far as decorating goes, I scoured various websites for 80’s posters. I also asked friends to dig up any records and memorabilia. As you can see from the pictures, they did not disappoint! I found a working record player in my in-laws attic, and set that up in my den along with all of the LP’s that were found. Guests brought any pics of themselves in the 80’s that I posted on an easel as well as high school yearbooks. I had on hand Transformers, Kabangers, Chucky dolls, Care Bears, you name it! Of course Aqua Net and Aussie Sprunch Spray was in the powder room for the girls.

Food and snacks were cheeseballs, Razzles, Fun Dip, and Reeses Pieces. My costume was a combination of Mandee and Claire’s for accessories. My husband was ICEMAN from Top Gun. Many guests had luck with vintage shops and their own ingenuity. We set up a TV outside so that guests could watch their favorite 80’s movies, Sixteen Candles, St. Elmo’s Fire, The Breakfast Club, etc. Oh, THE MUSIC. I am a fan of ALL 80’s music, so my iPod playlist had everything from The Police to R.E.M. to Metallica.

Can’t wait for this year’s party! Keep up the good work!
