Hall and Oates Halloween Costume

Some things just go together: Peanut butter and jelly, chocolate and peanut butter, beans and rice, and Hall and Oates.

Daryl Hall and John Oates had some of the biggest hits of the 80s.  Seriously, it’s kind of crazy just how many hit songs they had throughout the decade:

  • ‘Maneater’ (1982)
  • ‘Private Eyes’ (1981)
  • ‘Out of Touch’(1984)
  • ‘One on One’ (1983)
  • ‘I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)’ (1981)
  • ‘Kiss On My List’ (1981)
  • ‘Adult Education’ (1984)

The hits go on and on. Hall and Oates remains a huge part of my 80s listening library. When I think of them, I remember their amazing music catalog going back to the mid-70s (think ‘Rich Girl,’ their 1976 #1 hit), their lovely harmonies, and their smooth rock and soul sound. But mostly, I think of a sah-weet mullet and a signature mustache.

During the 80s, Daryl Hall and John Oates rocked many different looks: trench coats, shoulder pads, neon, headbands, and lots of hot, sweaty perspiration.

This Halloween, you can rock the Hall and Oates look too! This idea makes the perfect costume for two people — guys, girls, it doesn’t matter.

80s-inspired clothing suggestions to be at your Hall and Oates-iest:

  • Men’s blazers/suits with big shoulder pads
  • Skinny ties
  • Denim vests
  • Leather motorcycle jackets
  • Bright baggy pants
  • Matching trench coats and fedora hats

Or, you could choose the less subtle route:

Accessories include the all-important mustache for Oates, pompadour-mullet combo for Hall, and maybe a guitar and microphone.

  1. HA! Never thought of that costume idea.

That duo is an all-time favorite of mine. You’re right. The entire catalog going back to the 70’s is excellent.

One of the cooler shows right now is Live from Daryl’s House. Good stuff for music fans.

    Thanks Lori.
